couple of things to look at, 1. look at the disc on that wheel to see if there is any abnormal wear, as this could cause the disc to lock up, 2. check the bushes on the lower suspension arm as if these go (which is very common on later escorts) then they will cause the car to move about when braking though this should also make the steering feel a but "wobboly" sometimes.
