Default best way to change fuel pump on mk6 escort

scuse my french.....

my bag of wank escorts( 1.6 16v mk6) that does nothing but cost me money and piss me off has stopped workin AGAIN. i suspected the fuel pumped had gone as it conked out on the way to the petrol station, i took it home did a few checks and came to the conclusion that it was the fuel pump. after having a look under the seat and seeing that its a fuel tank off job decided to take it to the local garage who said that it was the fuel pump and that it would cost £368 including VAT to fixed .. so after thinking a mintue ive decided not to waste the money and the bag of shiite and do it my self...

is it possible to cut the hole around the fuel pump under the seat and remove it that way??? if so do i need any special tools ?? or am i just wasting my time in even attemting this??
sorry to swear but anyone else in my position thats a plumber out of work and cnt get a job becuase of the credit crunch who's payed 900quid for a car thats now cost me near enough £800 putting right since buying it in april time another 368 quid would take that to well over a grand and tbh i jus cannot see the point.
