You also need to check inside the selector box, 'take off the cables and remove the selector. on the shaft there is a sleeve which id full of tiny bearings this can brake and seize the shaft as posted above plenty of grease and it will be fine you dont need to replace the bearing bros van has been going for 4 years now since he had the same problem. hope that helps.
