I find that Megane a bit strange to be honest.
It's cool for what it is (although it is a bloody ugly thing), but it just seems far too "niche" for me.
The point of a hot hatch is to be pretty quick, fun to drive, look like a pumped up version of the cooking model it's based on, be well equipped, comfortable, easy to live with etc.
Based on that criteria, the new Focus RS hits the nail right on the head, has to be the best.
The Megane is more hardcore, aimed at the "trackday" market. I wouldn't want one for an everyday car. It's only got 2 seats, it's got trackday tyres, a rollcage, harnesses, minimal kit, no stereo etc. Seems to be ideal for a trackday car that can be driven on the road, but what's the point of putting all that into a hatch? If I wanted an impractical two-seater to drive to a track, round a track and back from a track, I'd buy an Elise/Exige/VX220 Turbo etc etc etc or a tuned Scooby/Evo that's maybe to expensive to run every day for a lot of people. Surely the point of putting a package like that together in a hatchback is to make it practical and easy to live with everyday, and that Megane is wide of the mark.
Or is it just me?
