no honestly when coasting at 60 the shafts will still run they are a constant connection to the wheels through the output shaft, i'm 99.99999% sure, if it's in gear and you put the clutch pedal down all the gears will be rotating at the same speed as if you was driving, just it wont be connected to the engine through the clutch, if it's in neutral at 60 with the clutch down also, you will just have the gears and output shaft moving but input shaft will be more or less still (will move slightly from drag).

if it sounds ok when the box has load put on it from driving, it shouldn't be a problem, and also selecting gears correctly and smoothly is another good indication to the box's condition, some boxes can be generally noisy like the cvh ib/ib5 box they always rattle at standstill, not too familiar with polo's so to have someone check it for you would be a good idea atleast you can blame them instead of the misses blaming you
