WRONG!

The ECU will revert to pre-set parameters in the software (chip) in order to acheive something near Stoich (Lambda 1) at the times that closed loop is required (Idle, less than 33% throtle (iirc) and below something like 2400rpm also when cruising at a constant speed with the engine load pre-determined by the MAP sensor) in order to acheive the best economy and driveability with a failed lambda sensor.
