Filter does indeed look way too big diametre, also as it has a 82 part number I reckon it's a V6 MFI filter, as fitted to xr4i etc, can you not get number from old filter ?
Anyway there is a pipe that runs from pump outlet to filter inlet in a u shape sort of.
Then the filter outlet connects to the fuel pipe going to engine through the banjo fitting on the end of it.
