I'd get the crank/bearing clearance measured to see if its within spec, then get it machined if necessary and new bearings to suit.

I personally doubt theres a special coating on the crank, the crank runs on a thin film of oil between the crank/bearing assembly, so special coatings etc need not be applied, the only time the crank comes into contact with the bearings is when oil pressure is lost.

In what way do the cranks not last long, do they wear prematurely or do they shear/snap?
