Do you know what section they stated, if it was section 1 of pace they should give a reason as to why there searching you, but if it was for example under the misuse of drugs act then there ok to do it.
The only thing they did wrong really was having you take your shoes off as thats not allowed in public, only outer garments, coats gloves etc....
