The 25% surcharge is to reflect recent global exchange rates turning to shit. That'll not be very different if you choose to buy from the US, the dollar was close to $2 to the pound last year, whereas now it's around $1.4 to the pound, so roughly 25% worse. You can't win mate, buying from the US isn't what it used to be. Certainly getting stuff through customs without being charged is less likely today than it was 5 years ago too!!
