I'm asking this a generic question and nothing much to-do with fords...

How could you go about reading the maps off a std ECU?

Say for example a Rover MEMS system that you want to replace with megasquirt. Instead of starting from strach would it be of any benifit to work out what the std mapping is and then work backwards with the new ECU from there?

If so, how?
