A question that has interested me ( slightly off-topic ) is how do these newer Mercs with Adaptive cornering lights or whatever they're called get round the law?

I'm sure you've seen the cars I mean - when they turn sharp left the left hand front foglight comes on to provide additional illumination. Surely by the letter of the law that is a no-no unless it's foggy?
