i only ask as this sounds like it could be the hall sensor on the dizzy thats packed up.....
put a volt reader on the sensor conector.
As i stated, its more than likely this.
you asked if you can buy the sensor itself, well im not sure but a recon. will have one on it. but this aint a cheap fix. it costs £165 for a replacement plus you need to retime your engine.
ive done this got mine from burton power. the problem you said was exactly the same as mine. if the sensor paks up the engine wont fire up, the sensor will stop the coil sparking the leads etc.
