In a lot of cases, most cars, after being repaired and welded properly (ie seam welded instead of the usual spot) can be a lot safer than they were when they left the factory.

The local plod once checked a friend's car after he'd been involved in a collision with a pedestrian. This had at one time had a front ender but they couldn't find fault with it and said that it was safer due to the repairs.
