With it NOT connected, the FUEL ecu thinks you are in part load.
I.E Not idle and NOT full load.

On most ecu's, extra fuel is only added for high boost conditions when the throttle is fully opened.
Not having this extra enrichment particularly when tuned beyond its original power level,
the tuner may be relying on this enrichment to get the AFR correct so preventing melt down.

I may be wrong but to me, it sounds like you have other issues with the car and it may not be the TPS sensor !!
