If you're planning on doing any sort of tuning or trying to get a bit more power out of it then, yeah, you will regret not getting a 2.0 litre.
But if you're just using it to smoke around in then they are reasonably pokey for what they are (Focus bodyshell isn't exactly a featherweight). If you find yourself getting frustrated at the massive torque dip between 2.5k and around 3.5k then be assured it's Ford's fault. They put that in there deliberately so that you get 'decent' economy at motorway cruising speeds.
