no the true fact is its a sign its on its way out, it may well work for years like it just like a worn wheel bearing you was advised about on the MOT that you dont hear when driving

but they should NOT rattle,, they never did from the factory and only seem to on most cars now and people say its fine as car do fine for years with the rattle


when i bought my bmw mine rattled for a few seconds on start up and was told the same,, my vanos now dont "kick in" even though the rattle is there for a few seconds like it used to be,,, its a vanos on its way out and on a car that COMMON for having vanos issues,,,, REALLY would you wanna risk it ??
