Sorry Ginge, i will disagree with you completely, the Vanos WILL rattle for no more than 5 seconds on start up - its perfectly normal. Any more than that then i agree, its probably knack'd

a bottom end rattle is different i agree, but a Vanos will rattle

i was given this information on very good authority from a BMW engineer
