What sort of effect do angles of inlet manifolds have on engines.

For example this one:



The bodies are pointing down - is the best way directly into the cylinder head the same way the ports are?

Mine for example is like this:



It flows directly the same angle the ports are...

Also whats the score with bends on inlet manifolds/bodies, what does this improve?
