Mine was doing this before. Was pretty sure it was the engine temp sender fooked and telling the ecu it was -30 and so to gush the fuel through to compensate. Its round the back of the inlet manifold. I THINK the sendor is exactly the same as the fan sendor so you might be able to swap em round to check.
I didn't get this far with sorting mine out (long story) to say for 100% this was the cause but was pretty convinced and worth a go anyway. Sendors are at fords still about £20. Got mine a week or so ago.
