I'm not going to take my lights out and that, but did try hatch lights in mine after some dodgy ebay special deal sapphy lights turned out to be hatch lights, put them in, well one anyway, I measured it with my finger, and it was in up to the 2nd joint on my finger, though mine might be fatter than yours!!
The number plate end was the same depth though.
