Default Picture posting - an illustrated guide for the beginner...

Right, here's my little tutorial on uploading and posting your pictures on the internet

You need to set up an account with an uploading site - sponsored uploader to this site is
www.photobucket.com . Easy to join and also free, you just need to register with a
user name as password (much like you do with forums such as this one)

Right, onto saving pics to your hard drive...

First you need to save each image to your computer (easy way is to hover the mouse over each
pic, then right click and select save as, making sure tho that the FILETYPE is .jpeg or .jpg
(look at the 2nd pic, the filetype is the box highlighted in blue. You can select what you want from there, but jpeg/jpg is the preferred filetype);

Then, save it to a folder in your hard-drive (for example I am saving it to a folder I created called
MY PICTURES), and give it a name;

Next you need to upload your pics to the uploader. Once in your photo album, the first box
lets you select the file from your HDD you want to upload. Click the BROWSE button and select
the folder your pic is in, and the pic that you want to upload;

Double click the pic you want to upload, and hit SUBMIT on the Photobucket page. Wait a few seconds and the screen will refresh and your pic should have been uploaded!

Ok, so now your pic is uploaded, how do you get it into your post/thread on PassionFord BB?

You are given three URL's to select from (my demo pic here only shows two). The one you want is
the IMG headed one (already complete with [IMG] tags, shown highlighted in blue);

To highlight it, left click it once and it becomes blue, then right click in the same place, and select
COPY (keyboard shortcut = CTRL + C )

Now, in the reply box (or new thread box) on this or another BB, right click again and select
PASTE (keyboard shortcut = CTRL + V) You should get the URL complete with code tags as shown;

Then just click the SUBMIT button on PF and as if by magic, displayed pic!

Any probs just give a shout out on here, no doubt someone will help you

RE-SIZING PICS TO CONINCIDE WITH PF's SIZE RESTRICTION

We now have a size restriction here on PF that means pictures will not show larger than 640x480 pixels. If your original pictures are larger than that, they will be automatically shrunk to the 640x480 size by coding Pet has put into the BB. But, as you might have noticed above, this can make pics seem fuzzy and unclear. There is a solution tho! If you can resize your pics before uploading them, then they will appear "true" in the post page, and hopefully, not fuzzy or unclear

This next little guide is only for peeps who are on Windows XP, as I haven't found a tool for non-XP users yet.

First off, you need to download this (direct link, just click SAVE) http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ertoySetup.exe

Save it to your desktop (or somewhere easy to find, like MY DOCUTMENTS) and when it's downloaded, double click the SETUP.EXE. This will install the plug in to your system. Just floow the prompts and don't change any file paths.

Once installed, you don't need to do anything! It's a plug in, which means it is now part of your OS. To use it, all you need to do is right click on a picture you have saved to your harddrive. You will see a new entry in te drop menu (highlighted in blue in my example pic)

This new plug in lets you choose a size, for either three preset sizes, or also a custom size of your choosing, to resize your pics. You can batch convert (highlight all you want to convert, then right click one of them, choose size and they will all resize) and you can choose to replace the original with the new resized version, or create a new resized pic, and keep the original untouched.

When you click the RESIZE PICTURES you get this window;

Clicking the ADVANCED tab opens up a few more controls, including the custom sizer and the option to overwrite original pics. As standard, it is configured NOT to overwrite your originals, which is probably best...

As you can see, the first choice is for SMALL which is 640x480, so click this and hit OK. In a second you will have a resized version in that same folder, with the same filename, just with (SMALL) in the file name.

And thats it! Easy as that. It also wroks in reverse - if your picture is smaller than 640x480 and you resize it anyway, it actually enlarges the picture

SHOWING SIGNATURES ON YOUR POSTS

Done in the same way as above, instead of pasting the image URL in a post reply, you need to
go to PROFILE (top right of every PF page). Next you need to scroll down till you see the white
window box marked SIGNATURE. Then jsut paste in the image URL of the pic you want displayed.
**Remember though - your signature pic needs to be no bigger that 500 (w) x 150 (H)
(pixels), and no bigger than 25,000 bytes in file size
