Is many years since i did it last but I come to a different solution to the one posted above.

Q1. X=1 and Y=0.5

Workings: Substitute x in terms of y so the first part now reads:

8y - 3(6Y-2) = 1

Multiply out the brackets to give:

8y - 18y + 6 = 1

Subtract 6 from both sides:

8y - 18y = - 5

-10y = - 5

Divide both sides by 10:

- y = - 5/10

Multiply both sides by -1:

y = 5/10 = 0.5

Feeding y=0.5 into original equation for x:

x = 6 x 0.5 - 2

x = 3 - 2

x = 1

Hopefully you can do the other 3 questions yourself!
