Your right, the dual channel mode of your motherboard will now be disabled and that means you are losing some memory bandwidth. How significant that will be to you depends on how much you hammer your bandwidth now, but it will be noticeable in the grand scheme of things and often affects overclocking performance as one of teh unmatched sticks could be throwing the lot out and you will never know, at least when its all matched you know your optimised.
As it happens, due to my upgrade to 1066mhz ram, I have 4gig of 800mhz ram, in 4 matched 1gig sticks for sale extremely cheap too..
