I expect your thermostat has just gone weak with age, there isnt really anything else it can be, and the weather is particularly fresh at the moment. I expect in a normal winter you wouldnt really notice it but seeing as its extra extra cold this winter thats probably why they are going cold again.

A new thermostat won't cost you much, the clip is a bit of a twat to fit though
