I have been having some starting issues with my S2 of late, and then yesterday it decided it didnt wanna start at all! No nothing, just a click on key turn. I stuck charge to the battery and it took 5 mins to charge (so no fault there)... tried again and 'click' 'click'.

It did this last week too, but only once.. then decided on 3 turns of the key to start the engine.

Anyways, got under the car yesterday and seen that one of the wires (rubber booted one) had come off the starter motor, but with the solenoid attachment still in it with snapped wires attached! Maybe this was the problem all along, what with it slowly deteriorating??

Looking thru the Haynes manual I came across the 'Starter Inhibitor Switch'. Maybe this could be looked into as well...... but where the hell is it, and does my S2 actually have one?
