A few months back did some work with the border police. We were told that we were NOT to arrest any persons who had come into the ocuntry illegally as it would disrupt the figures. Instead we had to find overstayers.

Was also told that most illegals do not have a passport, yet, in order to 'send em home' you have to proof which country they came from (ie passport) or that country did not have to take em.

Most the time you find an illegal you just serve em a form and ask them to make their own way to a deportation centre, Complete waste of time, not the border police themselves but the useless god forsaken govt making a both job of running this fine country.
