Being that it will either be Bluetooth or RF frequency, distance at anything inside 10m won't make a difference. It's not line of sight like IR. The only thing that can comprimise the signal quality is interference from other devices and EMI. Such as wifi routers (yours or other peoples), other RF gear like TV signals and other RF controllers, microwave ovens, cordless phones, etc, etc. EMI from TV's is also a common one.
I have a wireless (RF) keyboard with track pad that I use downstairs for my media PC, and that works EVERYWHERE. On the sofa 10ft away, in the kitchen through walls, out in the garden - not a problem....
