I specced a new laptop for my mum, came with vista and the adsl modem she used wasnt compatible with vista - she would have had to pay an extra £30 for a compatible one.

Need to say, I didnt even let her laptop boot to the desktop, it took foooookin ages. I said you need XP on here.

So one powerdown by holding the power button down for 10 seconds and booting from a xp bootable disk, installing xp and the drivers, I would happily say she had a laptop now that was 3x faster and she could use her existing modem.

Go figure...
