It does depend on engine quality/health yes, but really you should not have enough oil coming out the vent (or back into metering head depending what you do) to be able to see it!! Thats the point of the seperator it goes back down into the sump and only slighlty oil air/vapour comes out the vent (or into metering head). Mine vents to atmosphere and there is NO oil whatsoever on or aroud the little filter that i have fitted to the Bailey sepereator.
