Am having a nightmare, my missus trust 1.5 corsa diesel just went pop! Driving along the motorway she suddenyl noticed the hot heaters went very cold, the temp gauge wasnt up high, in fact quite low at the time. Then in the car she smelt a "hot" or sort of burning smell just before the engine completely cut out. I've towed it back and had a quick look, it appears as though a water pipe has split without her noticing (probably while in transit) and the engine has run dry! I'm guessing the temp gauage showed cold because no water was passing the sensor?

Anyways i've let the whole thing cool down and tryed to re-start however its having non of it, it sounds like it almost wants to go but then at the last minute doesnt, it turns and turns but wont go.

Am guessing the headgasket has cooked and her compression is gone, hence no start or run? Just after opinions please, would that be a good guess? Its only a £500 car and i'm trying to decide weather to throw any more cash at it? Its the isuzu 1.5 engine (1996)
