also on a cat C it will show up on the V5 box at the bottom - special notes .. will say something like " vehicle has been substancially damaged " so sometimes can put people off buying when you decide to sell. Cat d does not show on the V5 but may do on a hpi check... usually cat c are more damaged than they look... I have repaired c and d cars and sold them also... best to go and view the car before you buy or bid...
