Air flow meter Escort TD
I'm putting a TDi engine into my n/a van (forget previous thread topic in this forum) and the mechanic doing it says it is absolutely necessary to put a TD wiring loom in because of the crank sensor and air flow meter - he says if I don't do this it will run flat and will have serious idling/revving problems. In my understanding the MAF meter is primarily for the EGR system which I have told them to disconnect, but they are saying it is linked to the fuel pump via the PCM and determines how much fuel is thrown in relative to airflow?? I thought as the CAV Rotodiesel pump was 100% mechanical, the MAF meter has nowt to do with it, is this correct and is the MAF really needed if EGR is disconnected?? Same as per crank sensor??
