Not sure if you were aware or not, but I know this was bugging you before!

Can still call any number from 'emergency call' tho! Doh!

There isn't a message settings option tho?

Or do you mean under the "passcode lock" settings?

If so, that was there all along, I've been using that since 2.1! I had hoped they would have added an SMS option to the settings menu, with the ability to turn off SMS notifications all together - not just on the lock screen but also on the home page or when you are in an app - very annoying having a video pause cos a text came in, and even more annoying (and potentially dangerous ) having the contents of the text message show on the screen when someone else is using your phone!!!

As for the lock screen SMS preview - sadly, since the 2.2 update, although it still doesn't show the CONTENTS of the message, it now tells you who sent it. Mine used to say "NEW TEXT MESSAGE" but now it says NEW TEXT MESSAGE - with the persons name above it! Like so;

Thing is I really don't need it - I have Notifier installed which gives me all the info I need on missed calls, new texts/emails etc;

That gives me everything I need to see at a glance. Along with that, it also tells of voicemail and picture messages, new calendar invitations (if you sync OTA with Exchange, iCal or MobileMe) and note the little icons in the status bar on the top? They also show when in apps;

Been there all along - not a 3rd party app : just part of the standard Apple OS...
