In terms of throttle response, they have more in common with the T28 escort cosworths by the way, they make even a t3 cossie feel quite laggy by comparison.
Standard turbo is good for 280 realistically, people get more but its on its knees from how fast its spinning and generally wont last long.
Changing turbo is hard work, this is the biggest problem with tuning them.
The management is much more sophisticated than L8 etc too, its actually quite hard to blow one up really!
