Right, so it's a standard DVD-ROM disc, and it wouldn't read in your original DVD-ROM drive, so you then bought a new DVD-ROM/Writer - and this drive won't read ANY discs at all? Ie, no DVD video's, no other DVD-ROM's, no CD's etc etc?

Id say it's a computer issue then, as it'd be very unlucky to have bought a new drive that is faulty (although not impossible)

Check the cabling from the drive to the mobo would be first port of call - correct pin's and securely fitted. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drive in Windows, and/or updating the drivers for it.
