Default vat/van finance question

i have just agreed to sell my van to a company for £12250 + vat(@17.5%)i would have to pay the remainder of the balance,+ vat,+2.5%.which equates to around £2117.00.the company buying the van was invoiced for the £12250 today and i got an invoice for £18601.the balance due on the van was £13745 + vat.it looks like they have charged me for the difference of the balance, the vat on the difference and the 2.5%.and another £2143 in vat.they have invoiced me and the buyer the same amount in vat.i called them and they said that was correct, they lost me a bit on the phone as it was a bad line and i had a bit or trouble understanding the woman.surely you cant be charged vat twice on the same thing at the same rate or amount.i should be paying around £300ish vat and the company £2143.but we have both been invoiced for it.before i call tomorrow moaning that they are incompetent are they correct in doing this?it is the bank of scotland that i have finance with.thanks, lee
