You have to put your current number plate on Retention. This will cost you £105. Any post office or local DVLA will have the necessary forms. But the car you are taking the number plate off MUST have in date Tax and an in date MoT. And you will need copies of both when you submit the form for rentention. Most importantly you will need the serial numbers off your tax disc.

By LAW the DVLA HAVE to complete the retention process within a period of ten days at the most. But if they arent that busy it can be done as quickly as 24 hours.
