misery, had a couple of belts let go on me. once when i crashed into a tree and the bonnet jammed into the belt. that only bent 2 valves as the engine was at idle speed and stopped quickly.

2nd time i had just rebuilt the engine after gasket failure. also took the opportunity to have the head ported . put it all back together and followed the instructions in the manual about the tensioner. couple of miles down the road it let go at about 6k rpm and bent all 16 valves.

one word of warning about the tensioner. in the manal, i says to turn the tensioner clockwise and then tighten up the locknut. however, the tension of the cambelt pushes back against the pulley and tries to undo the lock nut - successfully in my case (i think the stud was just a touch loose). if you turn the tensioner anti-clockwise and then do the locknut up, the belt is trying to tighten the locknut so it can never come undone.
