Right... update on the Golf GTi... Its been on Vag-com today, and been given a clean bill of health, no faults whatsoever... The rev limit is actually kicking in at 5000rpm, the rev count inside the car is giving a false reading... although I think the rev limit is alittle on the low side...

Been told to change the coil, this should sort my rev count problem out fingers cross... and increase the rev limit up to the 6000rpm mark
