£220+vat is a touch on the high side for a solid colour (Im assuming its for the car in your sig)
If you were bringing it to us to paint then I would expect to charge £140+vat for a "standard" quality of finish - ie very little prep if the tailgate was in generally good condition. And allow an extra couple of hours to get rid of any blemishes and maybe a couple extra layers of paint or lacquer if you wanted a "showcar" standard of finish to make it £200+vat.
As others have said - you get what you pay for though and the best thing I think is for a customer to be given a choice, which is why we seem to be a bit different to the norm for bodyshops !!
