no, the engine is not the same as the ERST, well it is and is isnt, the FRST has a CPS where as the ERST never did, but the later ERST from 90 on had the hole in the block for the CPS for all the EFI cars and the same block was used.
crank, rods and pistons are the same as ERST.
the head is different on a EFI to that of the MFI also

shell wise, the FRST had differences that the other fiestas like 2i etc didnt have, for example the shocks were different, ball joints, springs, steering rack etc, the basic shell, even like the ERST was the same as any other model, but yes one really did exist as i have it sat next to me right now....
