I am about to do the same. This is the knowledge I have gleaned so far:
The fuel filter will require M14x1.5 fittings at either end. On the assumption that you are using -6 hose, you will need banjo fittings that can connect to that size of hose. Then just run the hose to your fitting on the fuel rail, which should be silver soldered to the rail. If you want to keep costs under control, you may decide to just use hose finishers (jubilee clip type) for the return.
