pics can be deciving,but that doesnt look like it will skim out.
can you get det under the fire ring?i would have expected a lot more damage around gap between the valve if it was caused by det.
is it just the one cylinder that has the problem?
the engine had been stood for a while then fitted to a mates car only water put in the engine then but it was only on the road for a while ( 3 weeks ) then after a bit of a nailing one day he parked up then restarted but it was smoking real bad with a misfire and it was down on compression on number 3 which has the worse pitting , the gasked looked ok it was quite pitted on edge of valve and it was a bit pitted on all but real bad on 2 even worse on 3
