M3 = 3.0 litre 24 valve, 286bhp, 5 speed box and VANOS on one side only.

M3 Evo = 3.2 litre 24 valve, 321bhp, 6 speed box and VANOS on both inlet AND exhaust, of which always seems to have probs.
