the oil pickup is bolted to the block and picks the oil up from the sump, through the oil pump and then through the filter and off to the galleries - you can (with the sump off) get the bits out and get the feed (which has a metal gauze over the end) off and inspect it and check inthe oil pump for any metal particle damge.

really it is quite bad what has happened and will need thouroughly flushing out otherwise come rebuild time and a bit of that metal gets pushed through the system it could all start agian
