UPDATE

Had a look at the cam last night, on the pointy bit of each lobe there is about 1 - 2mm gouged out the middle, there are also other tiny gouges close to these on the lobe. All the black freckle effect has gone as well.

If you look at the lobe from the side the top kind of looks a bit like this,
