The car has a 'clonk' in the steering column when the wheel is turned left or right.
It feels as though the steering wheel is moving a degree either way before moving the rack. However, the rack is moving instantly and there is no apparent play or delay. Feels like an actual UJ in the column is dodgy.
Steering is fine.
Column wont move sideways or anything that would suggest a bush problem.
Fault 2:
One tie rod end has a little bit of play in it. Is a 'little bit' allowed or should there be none. (Theres none in the other side).
Thats it as far as I can tell. My last car would pass everytime because the inspectors didnt have a clue about most of it. With an escort I think they'll be brutally efficient.
Cheers, all help appreciated.
hi.with the play in the steering,if there is play but the tester is unable to see the problem then it is an advise.unless the steering is turned and the wheels arent! with the tie rod, some play is allowed in the bush, but it is the testers discretion at the time if he feels it should fail.hope that helps, gary.
