Default Headlight Wiring help, Rover Metro

Hi,

I know it's not a Ford but my next door neighbour has just been round asking if I could have a look at his daughter headlights on her Rover Metro.

Basically her boyfriend has wired in a set of extra driving lights but instead of installing a relay and associated wiring he has just twinned the new lights into the feed to the main headlights and then earthed the driving lights to the body. Apparently when he turned the lights on everything worked for a few minutes and then it all went out.

So far they have checked the fuses in the drivers compartment, the relays and have changed the column stalk but lights still won't work. Have checked the fuses myself tonight and all of them look ok including the larger fuses under the bonnet. Going to have a look at the relays at the weekend.

Can anyone else suggest anything else that could of blown or burn't out that I should check?
Any help would be appreciated.
