Its one of those things that if you fancy spending a few weekends yourself sorting it out, is viable, but not when you have to start involving other people.
All it needs to see is a complete set of cossie sensors, so thats all you have to give it essentially.

That product was designed at a targetted price level versus performance for a small display.
It actually has a 32 bit multitasking processor and the display is its only limitation !

All the products I have ever designed would cost a fortune to develop if I was paid my usual hourly rate but I did them all for my enjoyment originally.
Yes it woudl be possible to wire up the original monitor using seperate sensors.
